GUM: Generations Uniting through Movement – Facilitating Intergenerational Sports and Physical Activity
Recently, we have carried out two pilot projects in collaboration with Salesianos Cruces and IES María Goyri Goyri, marking the first successful step of this innovative Erasmus+ initiative. Under the slogan #StickTogether, GUM is an intergenerational project that encourages physical activity among seniors and young people, promoting social connection and well-being.
¿What is GUM?
GUM – Generations Uniting Through Movement is a two-year program whose objective has been to bring together young and old people through sports activities that encourage greater physical participation in their local communities. Through the training of qualified professionals, it seeks to strengthen interactions between generations and contribute to a more inclusive society.
Target Groups
Personas mayores: Para este proyecto, personas de 65 años o más, cuyo interés en la actividad física puede disminuir con la edad.
Youth: Defined in the project as those 24 years of age or younger, with a focus on establishing sustainable physical habits.
In addition, GUM has an inclusive mission by targeting young people who are not in education or employment, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds or with special needs.
Research for a Sustainable Collaboration
The project is supported by leading European partners who conducted research led by Hanze University, analyzing successful cases of intergenerational collaboration in physical activity. This analysis forms the foundation of GUM, helping to identify best practices, challenges overcome and effective models to implement this program effectively.
This European program reinforces our commitment to create meaningful links between generations and build a future where physical activity is accessible to all.
